Resources to Support Anti-Racist Learning
I'm an anti-racist psychotherapist. I recognize my unearned privilege simply because I'm white. I also recognize the individual and collective trauma racism and white supremacy have created for people of color. When working in therapy with a client of color, we identify the sociopolitical structures where they may have experienced racism from institutions to corporations to neighborhoods to schools. Rather than pathologizing any oppression-based trauma from these experiences, we honor how the body, mind, brain, and spirit have creatively adapted to survive. We may then explore and celebrate which survival strategies are working and which may no longer be serving someone, all guided by a client's inherent wisdom. We reclaim and build strengths and resources in whatever way feels true, empowering, and safe.
For those of us who identify as white, we have an opportunity to explore the long history and manifestations of racism and white supremacy. We can do this without shame or guilt, but with self-compassion and curiosity.
Following is an evolving list of some resources to help support anti-racist learning.*
